Walk Pier to Pier for St Helena Hospice – Sunday 12th May 2024

St Helena Hospice’s popular sponsored walk is returning on Sunday 12th May 2024 and the local charity is urging people to sign up to help ensure more patients and families facing incurable illness and bereavement can receive the support they desperately need.

The family-friendly event is a favourite amongst local people, supporters of the hospice, and local businesses, attracting hundreds of people year on year since 2011.

The scenic walk starts from either Clacton or Walton Pier and participants can choose to walk the 7 miles between the two piers or challenge themselves to make the return journey – 14 miles in all! Many people walk to remember their loved ones, while others take part in groups, with their work colleagues, or simply just to support their local hospice.

Kayleigh Jowers, Senior Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be once again holding our flagship event, Pier to Pier, along the scenic Essex coastline this May! Last year over 600 people joined us to walk for their local hospice and this year we hope for Pier to Pier to be even bigger, better and bolder than ever before.

“Every day it costs more than £54,000 to run St Helena Hospice, but in the face of a critical financial deficit St Helena’s income is currently not enough to meet the demand for their vital services. This year, 80% of St Helena’s income needs to be raised through our community to ensure we can continue to be here to provide vital care and support for all who need us across north east Essex. By taking part in Pier to Pier your can make a real impact on the lives of local people facing incurable illness and bereavement.”

Registration is just £5 for adults and children over 5, with under 5’s and furry friends walking for free. You can also sign up for £20 per adult and child over 5, with no sponsorship required. Sign up now at www.sthelena.org.uk/piertopier24
